Beauty Trend: Orange Eye Makeup

The orange eye trend has been growing steadily for the past few seasons. catwalks were filled with orange-eyed models at Donna Karan, Prada, Rodarte, and many more.

When working with a bight, high pigmented color, it is best to start with an eyelid primer such as NARS' Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base $24. An eyeshadow primer may seem extravagant but it helps to maintain a just-applied look as well as keep a firm grip on the pigment. If you're just trying out an orange tone on your eyes, a great place to start is a coral blush. A product such as Benefit's CORALista $28 has enough pink tones to keep it subtle but when applied on the eye, especially in the outer socket line, it gives a warm coral glow. Similarly, powder eyeshadows such as MAC's Eye Shadow in Rule $15 are great for blending a subtle glowing eye.

If you're tentative to try a bold orange look on its own, a warm copper cream eyeshadow such as Illamasqua's Liquid Metal in Enrapture $26 is a great place to start. Apply the product as an accent to a smoky eye in the center of the eyelid or in the inner corner for a bold, yet less outrageous look. Copper tones work very well with people with dark or tan skin tones as well as for people who don't want to highlight the red tones in their skin with a true orange.

For those of you with bolder tastes, Make Up For Ever is industry leader for high-pigment products in a wide range of colors. The brand's roots in body art are evident and products such as the Aqua Cream $22 are perfect for bold, colorful looks. For a dramatic orange look, as pictured above at Thakoon, blend a bright Fuchsia in the socket line with a crease brush and highlight the center of your lid with a bright orange. Similarly, the look also works well when you start with orange in the inner corner and gradually blend out into a pink or red tone towards the outer corner of your eye. Lastly, a cream eyeshadow can be used as a liner. Brighten up your traditional smoky eye by applying orange cream shadow underneath the lower lash line with a stiff smudge brush.
